Shopping Etiquette

One of the greatest pleasures of owning a great pet is to be able to take her shopping with you.

However, before you start out shopping, there are a few precautions and pet etiquette that you should consider.

  • Only take your pet shopping if it is well behaved and people friendly.

  • Always keep your pet on a leash (In New York no longer than 6 feet ), or if small enough, in a backpack or pet carrier, when in public and around other people.
Remember, not everyone loves pets the way you do and they might not appreciate the attention of a friendly pet, even if it is well mannered.

  • Never take you pet into an establishment that serves or stocks food without asking first! Most can't allow pets due to health codes.

  • Never let anyone pet your animal, especially children. A restrained pet may be nervous and defensive. Also, people may claim injury from you pet, and it's their word against that of you pet's. (they have the upper hand)

  • Keep a close eye on your pet and make sure he doesn't go to the bathroom in the store. Store owners that do let animals in their establishments expect only responsible owners to frequent their store.

  • Finally, ALWAYS clean up after your pet. If your pet makes a mistake, apologize to the management and clean it up! Carry along some paper towels and pooper-scooper bags, (check us out)
